From the recording Road to the River
This tune was written by West Virginia fiddler Ernie Carpenter. The story goes that he wrote it after The Army Core of Engineers dammed the Elk River in WV and flooded his family homestead (where they had lived since the 1700’s). That would certainly give a man the blues. I fished the Elk River (West Virginia) once...skunked. I’ve always thought this was an especially beautiful piece of music andriver tribute so I thought I’d include it here.
